BDKYO Mission Statement

At Black Dragon Kenpo Youth Organization we believe in providing martial arts instruction to the youth in the community free of charge. Although there are a number of quality martial arts studios in the surrounding area, there is a large number of youth who are not able to benefit from the instruction of these studios because of the monthly cost of lessons.

This is why we founded Black Dragon Kenpo Youth Organization. We feel all youth should be given the opportunity to learn martial arts, and not be limited by their family income. Black Dragon Kenpo Youth Organization is a federally recognized non-profit youth organization and all funds needed to run this organization are raised through grants, donations and fund raising efforts by the students.

The style we teach is derived from a Chinese system and is called Kenpo. It stresses the basics of martial arts such as stances, blocks, punches, kicks and foot maneuvers. As the students progress they learn other defensive weapons such as knee and elbow strikes. They will learn self-discipline, control and respect as they rise through the belt ranks.

Although we use Kenpo as our main tool in helping the young people in our community to become productive citizens, we also plan regular group trips to such places as Great America, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Winchester Mystery House, Bodega Bay and bowling trips to name a few. We also have a movie night periodically where we watch a movie and eat food that the students bring to share.
